Captain Cook Country
Follow in the footsteps of Captain Cook, from his birthplace museum in Marton to the lovely village of Great Ayton where he spent his childhood. His school has been restored and a sculpture of Cook as a boy stands proud of the high green. His mother and 5 of his brothers and sisters are buried in the parish church of All Saints. The trail continues to the coast, through the sleepy fishing village of Staithes, where Cook began his love of the sea and on to Whitby where he set off on his travels of exploration.

Miles and miles of stunning landscapes of outstanding beauty. From barren heather-covered moorland to the towering and dramatic cliffs on the coast line at Boulby, the highest cliffs in England. The whole area has been a magnet for artists over the centuries and you find lots of little artists studios tucked away in many picturesque villages in the area.

Guisborough Priory
Just 4 miles from Great Ayton is the historic market town of Guisborough, dominated by the Gothic ruins of the Augustine Priory founded in 1119. Markets are held every Thursday and Saturday on the cobbled high street.

Cleveland Way Walk
A wonderful way to see the area is by foot along the Cleveland Way, an 110 mile walk from Helmsley across the wild beauty of the North York Moors National Park to the rugged coastline from Saltburn to Filey .
